Remedial Massage
in Brisbane

Bowen Hills Acupuncture and Remedial Therapies provides specialised Brisbane remedial massage services to treat patients whose muscles have become damaged, knotted, tense, or immobile. You will be looked after by Ken, who has over 15 years working in this industry and holds a Cert IV in Anmo Tuina traditional Chineses massage.

Remedial massage provides a range of therapeutic benefits and can be used to treat a number of problems that affect the muscles, tendon, and bones. It can stimulate blood supply, improve joint mobility, and help to repair damaged tissue. By working with Ken, you will take steps towards balancing the length, tone, and tension of your muscles and tendons, which benefits your bone positioning and blood flow.

Our approach to remedial massage is results-focused, with the aim of treating your health issues, and not just providing a relaxing experience. With only one treatment room, you can have the confidence that we will prioritise your health needs and privacy throughout the entire session.

We take a dynamic approach to treatment using multiple modalities depending on what is best for the individual. Alongside remedial massage, we may also complement your treatment with:

Cupping

Acupuncture

Massage gun therapy

Joint manipulations or mobilisation

Guasha

Whether you are experiencing muscle pain or need help overcoming a sports-related injury, our Brisbane remedial massage services can help you take important steps towards recovery.

Tui Na Chinese Remedial Massage

Tui Na Chinese remedial massage is an integral part of Chinese therapeutics that involves assessing and treating patients via their acupuncture channels and points, without using any needles. Tui Na means “push and grasp”, with common Tui Na movements involving kneading, pulling, pushing, and stretching of tissues and muscles. The ultimate aim is to restore proper circulation to all tissues to allow recovery and healing.

At Bowen Hills Acupuncture and Remedial Therapy, we believe Tui Na Chinese remedial massage is ideal for anyone who does not want or cannot have acupuncture, but who still wishes to improve their general health and wellbeing. It is excellent for patients who seek a non-needling method as part of Chinese medicine philosophy. Children can especially benefit from Tui Na as a non-invasive method and typically respond well to this kind of therapy.

What to Expect

Our Brisbane remedial massage services aim to relieve pain and discomfort in the muscles, joints, and tendons of people experiencing a range of health issues. We help athletes overcome sports-related injuries and individuals seeking the therapeutic benefits and outcomes of our services.

What is remedial massage?

Our approach to remedial massage is result focused. Whether your issue is musculoskeletal or general health, we will always include a proper assessment and analysis of the problem to determine a diagnosis before starting the treatment. Depending on the nature of the problem, we may suggest a blend of remedial modalities to achieve the best outcome for you, and we will do further testing to track your progress during the treatment.

What is the difference between remedial massage and sports massage?

Sports massage is often used to support athletes before and after their training to stretch and stimulate muscles and improve the condition of the soft tissues. In contrast, remedial massage is ideal for athletes who are experiencing long-term or severe injuries or musculoskeletal issues.

What should I wear to my appointment?

Remedial massage requires our therapists to access bare skin in order to properly deliver the treatment to the necessary muscles and tissue. Because remedial massage can be applied to most areas of the body, you will be asked to remove clothing from any area our therapists feel needs treatment. Women will typically leave on their bra, however, certain sports bras may need to be removed if they don’t provide enough access to the back of the patient.

Does remedial massage hurt?

Our therapists work closely with you to determine your pain threshold while undergoing your remedial massage treatment. Remedial massage is not meant to be soothing or relaxing, and it is likely you will experience some discomfort during and directly after the treatment. However, you should also feel your original pain begin to subside one our therapists have worked on the affected area/s and feel a lasting sense of relaxation after the treatment. As always, if you have any questions or concerns about your session, be sure to contact us on 0434 411 645.

If you are an athlete or someone who regularly keeps active, then you could benefit greatly from our Brisbane remedial massage treatments. Many sports people find remedial massage to help them overcome pain and discomfort while training, while improving their overall physical wellbeing.

Remedial massage can be a worthwhile option for anyone wishing to decrease their soreness and increase their mobility, and is a good alternative form of treatment for individuals who are unsure about acupuncture or cupping, or who have a phobia of needles.

You can choose to receive remedial massage treatment on an ad-hoc basis, or regularly schedule sessions depending on your needs. We recommend you allow at least a couple of days between remedial massage treatments–with those experiencing acute or stubborn problems attending a couple of times a week.

After you have received your remedial massage treatment, you can return to training straight away, as it may actually assist in improving your pain-free range of motion. However, if you have a big event or game coming up, we recommend you receive your treatment at least 48 hours in advance to allow for any post-session soreness to subside.

If you need that peace of mind that your body will hold up during a big event, or you just want to mitigate any soreness felt after training, then consider booking a remedial massage session at Bowen Hills Acupuncture and Remedial Therapy today.
